High school teacher account upgrade and changes

We are excited to announce that during Nov - Dec 2025 we are rolling out a brand new, modern system for students to make conversation reservations!

The updates will also allow you to access several new features:

Of course, our classic 1-on-1 conversations will always be available for your students!

Important changes:

  1. We have moved all your students into one of two class sections in your updated account. The sections are: “Fall 2025 (language) students” and “Archived students”. Students not archived in your high school account will be in the “Fall 2025 students” section. Students you previously archived will be found in the “Archived students” section.
  2. For credits that were remaining in your high school account when we made this update, we can send a list of Pre-purchase Codes to you by email so you can pass them to your students or redeem them in your own student account to reserve whole-class conversations. Credits that were already in your students’ accounts remain there. (We've already sent these codes to teachers with active high school accounts. If you have not received your codes or have questions, please contact us at support@talkabroad.com.)
  3. You can no longer create accounts for students, or pass them credits 1-by-1, or log in to student accounts and make reservations for their students. Instead, you’ll manage students in sections you create in your updated account. You will be able to create your assignments like normal inside your sections. See instructions here.
  4. New students can now create a student account on their own, and then join your section using a Section Code you provide them, and then they can redeem a Pre-purchase Code to get their conversation credits (or make a purchase using a credit card). See student instructions here.
    1. If your school doesn’t permit students to use their own email addresses when creating accounts, parents can use their email address to create an account that they supervise as their student uses it.
    2. Alternatively, you can create student accounts yourself so you can share the username and password with your students. Just use the + sign to create an email address alias. (Example: teacher+1@school.edu). Use that email when creating a student account, and you'll get all that account's emails yourself!
  5. To schedule whole-class conversations, you will need to create a separate section for that purpose in your teacher account and then create the whole-class assignment topic there. Once that’s ready, you can create a separate student account for yourself (follow the same instructions for students linked above, but using a different email address to create your own student account).
  6. If purchasing individual conversation credits in bulk, we will still honor the high school pricing you are familiar with: $10 for each 15-min conversation, $12 for each 30-min conversation. (This is in addition to the pricing and discounts linked above, which applies when purchasing for multiple conversations per student.)

Releasing this upgrade will not only give you access to the new features mentioned above, but this new system will allow us to soon make a number of additional upgrades we’ve been dreaming of for some time - new filters to use when searching for partners, new feedback options for students and teachers, new student support for prep and post work, etc. You can see what’s currently planned here.

We really appreciate your support of TalkAbroad, and want to make this upgrade as smooth as possible for you and your students. You might notice a few bumps, and we want to resolve them as soon as we can. You and your students can always reach out for help and to share feedback at support@talkabroad.com
