How do Conversation Tables work?

What is a TalkAbroad conversation table?

Conversation tables are hosted by two TalkAbroad conversation partners who model a TalkAbroad conversation and periodically invite you to join the conversation. Conversation Tables last about 30 minutes. See an example video of a Conversation Table here.

The purpose of the conversation table is to model a TalkAbroad conversation so you’re comfortable and prepared for your first 1-on-1 conversations. We invite you to participate, but we’re also happy to have you just come and watch!

When will Conversation Tables happen and how do I attend?

You can find the link to join each Conversation Table session in your TalkAbroad account by clicking on Conversation Tables on the homepage. Join links appear about 5 minutes before the conversation starts.

Do I need to purchase access to Conversation Tables?

Learners can get access to the conversation tables in one of two ways:

• Redeem a Pre-purchase Code that includes Conversation Tables access - Click Add Credits on your homepage, enter the code in the field provided, and click Redeem. No additional purchase is necessary.
• Make a purchase ($15) that includes Conversation Tables access - Click Add Credits on your homepage. Select Yes for Conversation Tables access and click the Checkout button.

Once enabled, Conversation Tables access lasts for 150 days. You can attend as many conversation table sessions as you like during this 150 days.

Once you do that correctly, you will be able to locate the option to participate in the upcoming Conversation Tables from your Homepage.

How do I participate in my conversation table?

The conversation table host will periodically invite people to participate. If you want to share a comment or question just click the raise hand icon and unmute your microphone when invited to speak. The host will let as many people participate as possible during the allotted time.

What if I don’t want to talk?

No problem! Our hosts will never ask you to speak when your hand is not raised.  Sit back and enjoy watching the conversation unfold. There’s no need to participate until you’re ready.
